John Burke

Owner of the Dungeon Mixed Martial Arts Academy Since 1997.
Has been training over 27 years in the martial arts including: Kung Fu, Wrestling, Boxing, Judo & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Instruction in Grappling, Submission Fighting & Ground & Pound Techniques, Kettle Bell Training and general combat conditioning.

Has taught self defense, weapon retention, officer survival techniques to Law Enforcement, Military and other organizations over the years, but my first love is the mixed martial arts. Since residing on Cape Cod in the mid 90’s, I’ve been training people for kickboxing, grappling, and Mixed Martial Arts competitions and was also voted Instructor of the Year 2008 by Reality Fighting.

I’ve had fighters compete all over the world and in 2009 brought two of those now former fighters to a #1 ranking in their weight class also including a 2009 fighter of the year award. We were also voted outstanding fight team of the year 2009 by Reality Fighting. Whether you just want to loose weight and get into shape, or want to train to fight any type of competitions, I will get you into that shape.

Yours in Combat,
John Burke

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructor Brown Belt Jesse Sullivan

Been training in the Martial Arts for over 15 years. Have trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Royler Gracie in Brazil and Megaton Diaz in Arizona. Was fighting full contact kickboxing (undefeated) for John Burke until the mixed martial arts started in the 90’s.

Jesse lived in Brazil for 2 years and trained with Royler Gracie. Since then, Jesse has headed up the Dungeons Jiu-Jitsu program.

Jesse was the first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor on Cape and is one of the best instructors in New England.

Jimmy Oliver

Jimmy Oliver, a BJJ brown belt, has been training in the martial arts for over 12 years and has trained with the dungeon for over 8 years. Jimmy has been instructing at the dungeon for over a year now and has proved himself as a valuable team member.

His conditioning, grappling & ground and pound skills demand respect. He is one of the main MMA and grappling instructors at the Dungeon and runs most of the conditioning programs.

Van Mariano

Van Mariano holds a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has been training and teaching BJJ at the Dungeon for over 7 years.  BJJ classes are held  Monday through Thursday and, on Fridays, Van also provides guidance and instruction during the open mat session.. Van is a superior BJJ Instructor, as evidenced by the consistent winning performance of the BJJ Team at NAGA and other formal grappling events.

During the week, when not teaching, you can find Van mixed right in with all the classes training dungeon style!  He is great to work with and, like all of the Dungeon Instructors, wants to help you grow your fighting skills and achieve your goals

Jeff Wahtola

Jeff wahtola, a purple belt in BJJ, has been training for years at the Dungeon. Like Jimmy, Van and Jesse, Jeff started down in my basement as a group of guys looking to train hard and become part of the dungeon team. Jeff has done very well as a professional MMA fighter and heads up the women's boxing/kickboxing class. Jeff is also a professional musician owning the band Syndicate and can be found playing out at some of the most sought out clubs in New England. Jeff runs the best Women's class on Cape Cod.
